BIS 489 Registration Process

 BIS 489 Registration Process:

  • Student contacts BIS office and obtains “BIS 489:  Directed Readings/Research Information and Guidelines” form and “Permission to Register for BIS 489”.
  • Student must write up a proposal and a proposed bibliography for the readings to be included in his or her BIS 489 project.  The BIS 489 proposal can be included either on the space provided on the “Permission to Register for BIS 489” form or as a separate attachment.  The BIS 489 proposal should be 150-300 words in paragraph form and should include the following information:
    • A statement as to the specific topic that is to be addressed in the readings.
    • A brief explanation of the specific academic objectives to be met by completing the course.  You must explain how the specific topic to be addressed in the BIS 489 project is relevant to your broader core concentration.
  • Student fills out “Permission to Register for BIS 489” form and takes the form to faculty advisor for approval and signature.
  • Student returns “Permission to Register for BIS 489” form, proposal, and proposed bibliography to BIS office for review and processing.
  • BIS office reviews submitted paperwork.

If approved, BIS office submits an Individualized Section form to the Registrar’s Office to create an individual BIS 489 section for the student and the student is notified of the approval.
