If you are a member of the George Mason community--a student, a staff member, faculty, or alumni--you may use the Writing Center's free services. Clients must have a current or former Mason student ID number to use the Writing Center. Please remember that the Writing Center is not an editing or proofreading service. They will work with you to improve your own proofreading and editing skills, but they don not simply correct mistakes for you. They want to help you learn to become your own best proof reader and editor.
The ELI provides five levels of quality instruction, starting from high beginner (for those that have studied English for at least one to two years in a high school or college) to high advanced. You will be given a comprehensive placement test so that you will learn the most in a class that's right for you.
You will work with instructors who are experienced professionals in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL). All have Master's degrees, extensive teaching credentials, and a wide variety of interests they bring to your classroom. Your classes will be small - no more than 15 students in a class whenever possible. Together you will share learning adventures as you make new discoveries about language, learning, culture...and yourself.
