Prior to attending George Mason, Brian served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He deployed to Ramadi, Iraq, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom II, and served as a Logistics Manager in Okinawa, Japan. Brian earned 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Medal to name a few. Regarding his awards he stated that he was “just doing his job” we know he went above and beyond in his military service and are very proud to have him in the BIS Department.
After leaving the military, Brian enrolled in school full time, but life just kept getting in the way. He worked as a Recruiter in Human Resources for government contracting, academia and tech industries. These experiences gave him firsthand knowledge of how lacking a bachelor’s degree disqualified him from additional opportunities and promotions. He knew that in order to advance his career he would need to obtain his bachelor’s degree.
Brian decided it was time to make a life change and enrolled in courses at Northern Virginia Community College. In the fall of 2020, Brian’s advisor recommended looking into the BIS program at George Mason. What he found when he did was a flexible curriculum that would utilize his years of professional and military experience for course credits. After speaking with one of the Program Directors, he knew this was the right path for him. He learned that the sole focus of the program is to ensure adult student learners are provided the support and resources needed to finish their degree. Brian is now on track to graduate in the Fall of 2022. Brian is a proud husband, father, and now, George Mason Patriot on his way to fulfilling his lifelong dream of completing his bachelor's degree.
