Arwa Sawan graduated from George Mason University in 2017 with a BIS in New Media, Film Production, and Human Rights. She has over twelve years experience in journalism, film production and Arabic media. She is an activist for women’s rights and is a Professional member of “Women in Film & Video.” She has taught intensive Arabic media, films, conversational Arabic to American diplomats, State Department officials, and other government and non-government organizations.  She has taught Arabic and media language at Trinity Washington University, University of Maryland, and the Middle East Institute (MEI). She has also taught Arabic Media at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, D.C. Arwa is a journalist, producer and a host for a weekly program (FOCUS Show) at Alhurra TV.

As an activist in the Arabic media, Arwa strives to build cultural understanding, which is one of the key elements in stability operation, peace resolution, and mutual respect that can only enrich our humanity and progress. She has co-authored two books published by Yale University Press. Both of her books: “Introduction to Spoken Standard Arabic: A Conversational Course” and “An Introduction to Contemporary Spoken Arabic” made Amazon's best sellers list.

She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Communication, Film Production, Television and Video at American University in Washington DC.
