BIS in Individualized Study

Jane Hugar, 2020

Jane Hugar

Before attending George Mason, Jane pursued a BFA in Dance with an English Minor. When she was  unable to finish her degree, she attended real estate school and worked in one of the original offices of Keller Williams in Texas. She later worked with a high end boutique real estate company. The uncertainty of working in real estate was always a challenge and when market conditions changed, she decided to pursue the booming high-tech industry. While she enjoyed sales and marketing, she always felt she was hindered to move up in the field and that her career was never on solid ground because she lacked a bachelor’s degree.

After raising her family, she was finally able to go back to school. George Mason University was the natural choice because she was now living in Fairfax,VA. With the help of a keen advisor in a different college she was directed to the BIS department. She could not believe that she literally stumbled upon the dream she was looking for. Her passion to graduate was strong and her desire to help others do the same was even stronger. Jane graduated from GMU in August of 2020 with a degree in Psychology and Well-Being and is now pursuing her master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Development, also at GMU. More importantly, Jane is now an Academic Advisor in the BIS department and is thrilled to be pursuing her passion of working with other adult learners to help them complete their degree.
